Co-founder and President Emeritus of The Democracy Collaborative
Bio
Ted Howard is the Co-founder and President Emeritus of The Democracy Collaborative, an action-oriented think/do tank established 25 years ago in the United States. Among the Collaborative’s signature programs are The Next System Project and Community Wealth Building, a new approach to inclusive, equitable, democratic and sustainable economic development. In 2008, he led a team that developed the first comprehensive model of community wealth building in Cleveland, OH: including the Evergreen Cooperative business network. Evergreen, in turn, inspired the global community wealth building movement now underway in England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, South Korea and elsewhere. He is currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands where he serves as Senior Strategic Advisor to the municipality of Amsterdam’s community wealth strategy.
Ted has been named by the Utne Reader as one of “25 visionaries who are changing your world” and identified by the Guardian newspaper as “the de facto spokesperson for community wealth building” internationally. He is co-author of “The Making of a Democratic Economy: Building Prosperity for the Many, Not Just the Few.” (July 2019, Berrett-Koehler), and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in Great Britain.
